Bicycle helmets

Do you and your kids wear helmets when biking?

My husband I and are considering relocating to Fort Wayne. We currently homeschool our 6 year old. We also have a 16month old and a baby due in June. I am wondering if moving to a new town and continuing to homeschool is the best idea. I am afraid our kids will be too isolated and have a hard time finding new friends without enrolling them in a school. What is available for homeschoolers in Fort Wayne? We currently are members of a co-op that meets once a week, are involved in daisies, dance, piano, and swimming. We are Catholic and would like the find a church that has homeschooling get-togethers. We also frequent our library for their kid's programs. Are there similar activities in Fort Wayne and which ones would you suggest. Thank you so much for your help!

Welcome to Moms -- and perhaps to Fort Wayne, too!

There is a great homeschooling network in Fort Wayne and lots of options for activities. There also are some homeschoolers on this site who could be good resources for you. Hopefully, you'll hear from some of them! I encourage you to join the Homeschoolers group in our Groups area (http://moms.fortwayne.com/?q=group/259), as well. It has a lot of members and needs some active participants!

Hi!
I currently homeschool our four children...3rd through 8th grade. We joined a co-op this year and have been pleased. My oldest currently takes two high school classes (for credit) through another co-op and we are also pleased with how things are going with that. We are now in our third year of homeschooling and don't ever see sending our kids back to a traditional school setting.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised to find that Fort Wayne has a huge homeschooling network. There are several co-ops available, lots of activities always seem to be happening and our libary is wonderful with the services available to homeschoolers.

There are a couple of places for you to start gathering information that you may find helpful right away. One is a newletter put out by Fort Wayne Area Home Schools http://www.fwahs.org/default.htm They send out quaterly newsletters (it is a subscription though) filled with tons of information. I also get weekly emails from them with up-to-date happenings, activities etc. I recommend taking a look at their web page as they also share information about support groups.

Another support group that is wonderful can be found on Facebook. It is a "closed" group for Fort Wayne moms that homeschool. Just look up Fort Wayne Homeschool Moms and then request to join. I don't often ask a lot of questions, but I do follow the posts as they are often filled with lots of information I otherwise wouldn't know.

If I can help you or answer any other questions you might have, send me a pm or post it here. I'd be happy to help!

Thank you for the encouragement and suggestion!

Thank you so much for all of the great information. I will check them out! With moving, a new job, a new baby on the way and two kids I am glad we have the flexibility of homeschooling!! I don't know what we would do if my daughter was having to switch schools right now. Hopefully we will fit right in to the homeschool crowd in Fort Wayne! Thanks for your help!

You are very welcome! Goodness, you have a lot on your plate. The move alone is taxing enough...but add in a new baby on the way and schooling at home. I'm tired for you! lol

Good luck with all of it!

I was thinking the same thing. Switching homes is such a head ache without having children, I can hardly imagine what it's like to do it when you have two and one on the way. I've just moved here myself and even though it was an exhausting process I was lucky enough to get the movers in Phoenix help, it would have been a terrible experience without them.
